ABOUT THE
FILM OFFICE
The Overberg Film Office is a platform for film professionals in the region to advertise and network as well as serving as info hub for visiting local and international film makers to find film support in the area.

With the recent effects of Covid-19, film makers are looking for fresh and safe locations or inspiration and the Cape Overberg is more ready than ever to facilitate small to large film crews of any size, in multiple genres. Wide open spaces and secluded locations, means safety comes much easier than in metropolitan areas. This all, an hour and a half drive from Cape Town city centre.
ABOUT THE
OVERBERG
The Overberg has always been considered as the breadbasket of the Cape due to grain farming in the area. Farms and wheat fields are bordered by mountains covered in fynbos and coastal scenes with many shades of blue. One of the most scenic drives in the world, Clarence Drive or locally known as the R44, is a popular setting for especially vehicle commercials. The same goes for the gravel roads through the forests in Elgin Valley Grabouw.

In Gansbaai the presence of marine wildlife has documentary film crews almost constantly filming. Gansbaai is known for the marine Big Five – sharks, whales, penguins, seals and dolphins.
There are a few hot spots in the Overberg that hosts regular film shoots with many hidden gems to be explored. Hermanus, Pringle Bay, Kleinmond, Gansbaai, Elgin and Bot River are amongst the most popular. As is the picture perfect Arniston.

Union Pictures, one of the leading animal training companies in South Africa is based in Bot River and does around 170 film jobs per annum of which 30% is on the farm itself. They have been supplying trained wild, exotic and domestic animals to the film and television industry since 1987.
